John Allen Davis closed out his final trip around the sun on Sunday, November 26th, 2023 at his home in Sunbury, Georgia.

Allen was born on June 10th, 1959, the eldest son of four children to Brandt Wilson Davis and Jean Marie Davis. After several years living in Hollywood, Florida, the family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where Allen would spend the majority of his childhood.

Allen received a Bachelor’s degree in History from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Allen was also a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Allen married the love of his life, Maury Jones Davis, on May 12th, 1990 at Maxwelton in Colonel’s Island, Georgia. The happy couple settled in Savannah in 1991, where they lived for 21 years before eventually settling in their forever home in Sunbury, Georgia. Their home is a place that Allen and Maury built from the ground up, with a consciousness of maintaining the natural beauty of the area. A place they often called “Sheerness Reach,” their home is the embodiment of love, collaboration, and their pure joy.

 Allen’s career spanned across many industries, including but not limited to event planning, concert promotion, telecommunications, chartering deep sea fishing excursions, asset management, and shipping. He was successful in all he put his mind to, having closed numerous capitalizations, acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, and partnering arrangements. He ultimately secured capital for over $1 billion in business opportunities in over 100 markets. In most recent years, his primary focus was working with his wife Maury as they managed and operated CMJ Investments, LLC (which owns and operates various real estate properties) and Allied Ocean Transport, LLC.

 Driven by eternal optimism and an adventurous spirit, Allen was a global traveler and explorer who sought thrills in skiing, deep sea fishing, hunting, and snorkeling, to name a few. He pushed himself to the extreme and excelled in all things he held passions for. His love for travel was also led by the immense joy he felt in spending time with the people he loved while in his favorite places—from the waters of the British Virgin Islands and the mountaintops of Big Sky, Montana, to the beaches of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and the streets of Paris—always landing together back down at his home in Sunbury.

Allen was a devoted fan of college football, specifically the Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Allen also held a deep passion for wildlife and his pets. He had a strong, almost cosmic connection to the natural world. He took in the sunrise each morning, the sunset each evening, and would gaze upon the moon and the stars each night. Allen was continuously environmentally conscious, specifically as a steward of the Georgia coast, honoring its natural splendor. He was truly happy to be on the planet every day.

In his loss, his family holds dear some of his favorite adages, the most prominent being: today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Also held close are his dearest friends, Tim Schriver and Justin Royal, who were as much a part of his love for travel and adventure as anyone else. He was preceded in death by his father, Brandt Wilson Davis and brother, Jefferson Brandt Davis. Allen is survived by his wife Maury Jones Davis; his sons, John Carmichael Davis and daughter-in-law, Hannah Sexton Davis; Nicholas Greer Davis, Mitchell Allen Davis and his daughter-in-law, Morgan Elaina Davis, and his daughter, Kathryn Lane Davis; his mother Jean Marie Davis; his brother Scott Wilson Davis and sister-in-law, Hope Daggett Davis; sister, Lisa Davis Klepper and brother-in-law, Robert Paul Klepper; and his grandchildren, Simms Abram Davis, Ellison Abel Davis, and Vance Thomas Davis.

Interment and memorial services will be held privately.
